Simple Questions / Simple Answers (Gens I - VIII)

Question about White 2: I just started playing white 2 and I noticed I'm not getting any EXP from catching wild Pokemon. Is this an intentional game design decision, accidentally getting a broken game card, or something else?

I think it's not until Gen 6 that you gain EXP from catching Pokemon.
