Which pokemon can beat Platinum's bosses by themselves?

Time to face off against the big bad for the last time. No new items; we head straight into the Distortion World and face off against Cyrus. So let's look at his squad.

This team is a serious step up from what we've been facing up to this point. 5 fully evolved pokemon, all hard hitters. Setting up on that Houndoom will be near-impossible with its damage output, and there's also an Intimidate mon which is always a pain for any physical mons to deal with. Not one of these foes is a dud, so i expect some serious casualties.

As usual, we start out with Empoleon, but things didn't go well this time. I couldn't power through, but if i set up Swords Dance on Houndoom, he liked to Will-o-Wisp me. And even if he didn't, one Swords Dance wasn't enough to kill Gyarados and he could outspeed and 2-shot me. I tried various things to get around this, including Rock Tomb and a Shuca Berry, but nothing worked. Empoleon is out. Next was Luxray, and he also had no way of winning. By spamming Charge and Rest-stalling Houndoom out of Flamethrowers, i could ensure i got Magnet Rise off and could safely kill Gyarados, but the damage he did with Waterfall was still enough for Weavile to come in and finish me off. I found no way around this; Luxray is out. Zam was next, but he wasn't even guaranteed the one-shot on Houndoom or Honchkrow after a Calm Mind, considering that he had to hold the Quick Claw for Weavile. The only strat i saw was to Swagger Houndoom and hope for enough self-hits to allow me 2 Calm Minds, then i'd kill him and Honchkrow and hope my claw triggered against Weavile. The one time it did, Crobat also outsped me and finished me off. Alakazam is out.

This massacre had to end somewhere though, and next was a mirror match. Thanks to Intimidate and a Wacan Berry, my Gyarados could set up 2 Dragon Dances on Houndoom and then kill with Aqua Tail. The enemy Gyara was next, and his damage output meant i could generally get one dance in in between Resting. This took forever, but it got me to +6, after which i killed everything with Ice Fang and Aqua Tail. However, next was another mirror match, but Crobat never even reached its counterpart. I could shut Houndoom down with a Captivate and well-timed Roosts to power down his Thunder Fangs, but Weavile came after and could OHKO me. I tried confusing him, but he never hit himself enough. I also tried spamming Steel Wing on Houndoom for defense boosts, but eventually Houndoom would just crit me to death. Crobat is out. Machamp also ran into serious trouble; he's slower than everything, and they all deal massive damage. I could one-shot Houndoom, but i found no way to beat the Crobat that came after. Machamp is out. Lopunny however did have what it takes. Captivate lowered Houndoom's special attack enough that i could safely set up all my Defense Curls, with a few Rests in between. From here, i was invincible if i Captivated the others a few times, and Cute Charm helped out too and gave me a few free turns as i Returned everyone to death.

Bronzong could choose between being weak to Flamethrower and being weak to Earthquake. In the end, i figured i got more value out of Heatproof, since your matchup into the enemy's lead tends to be the most important. I rarely beat Houndoom even without a weakness to Fire though. He simply outdamaged me, and he rarely hit himself in confusion often enough for me to beat him. I made it past twice; the first time Honchkrow crit me, the second time Gyarados quaked me. Bronzong is out. As for Cynthia's boy Spiritomb, while i could Captivate Houndoom to make him harmless and then set up all my Nasty Plots, everything outsped me and there was no safe spot to Rest, so they'd eventually overpower me. Spiritomb is out. We finish off for today with a pokemon who had no trouble whatsoever, and that's our triple champ. Snorlax has Thick Fat so he feared nothing Houndoom could do, and could set up all the Amnesias and Defense Curls he wanted to make himself inpervious to what the others could do. Return spam did the rest.

I expected this fight to be difficult, but not this difficult.

We start today with Lucario, but our aura boy didn't fare too well. He needed an Occa Berry to survive Flamethrower, but even then he took so much damage that Gyarados could kill immediately after. I tried Magnet Rise, i tried flinching with Rock Slide and i tried Expert Belt and hitting Houndoom with Vacuum Wave, but nothing worked. Lucario is out. As for Pelipper, he could have won if he had good, regular, or even slightly bad luck. The strat was to tank the first Thunder Fang with a Wacan Berry, set up a Stockpile, Roost up and then get the other stockpiles in, allowing me to safely Surf and Ice Beam my foes down. However, on every single attempt, i either got crit or got flinches at just the wrong moments. 10 attempts, bad luck every time. Pelipper is out. Drapion however could not be crit thanks to Battle Armor, so he Captivated Houndoom a few times, set up all his Swords Dances, and swept. Still took until attempt 5 due to bullshit freezes and consecutive Confusion self-hits, but eventually he got there.

Next up was Wallace's girl Milotic. She had Attract to incapacitate her foes, Recover for healing, and Surf and Ice Beam for damage. This combination proved enough to stall Cyrus's team out and chip them down. Now we're on to a mirror match, and perhaps for the first time the mirror was actually the problem. Cyrus's Weavile outsped mine and would kill with X-Scissor. I needed an Occa Berry to survive Houndoom, so i could not hold a Quick Claw to try and outspeed. Nothing i tried worked. Quick attack didn't do enough, even after a Swords Dance. I also tried Captivating Houndoom so that i could set up all the Swords Dances i wanted, but since this set required Rest, that left me with just Quick Attack for offense, which has no killing power. Expert Belt and just outspeeding and killing things was also tried, but while this got me past Weavile, Gyarados killed me. Weavile is out.

On to the mid-dex legends. With Azelf, i lucked out. I needed Houndoom to miss a Will-o-Wisp as i set up Nasty Plot, thus leaving my Colbur Berry intact for Weavile. Afteri killed Weavile, i'd need Crobat to miss the range to kill me, and also not poison me with Cross Poison. This all happened in attempt 4, allowing me to kill them all with Hidden Power and Thunderbolt. Dialga would then kill them with Hidden Power and Thunderbolt with one Rest in between, and Palkia drowned them with Specs Thunderbolt. With Manaphy, the idea was to set up one Tail Glow on Houndoom, kill him with Surf, and then set up all my Acid Armors and Tail Glows on Gyarados so that i could Surf everyone down. This worked swimmingly, no pun intended. Last for today was Gallade, but things didn't go well for him. He's not exactly slow, but compared to the speed demons on Cyrus's side he can't match up, and he's too frail to Rest up anywhere. They'd always wear him down before he could kill everyone. This was made worse by the fact that i needed a Swords Dance to kill some of these foes, and there was nowhere safe to set this up. Gallade is out, and will finally be together again with Gardevoir in the great beyond.

Ouch, at this rate only 20ish will reach Cynthia.

Sorry if you mentioned it before, the two Pokemon in double battles have the same moveset or each copy is allowed to have different moves?

There are no double battle bosses in Platinum, so this isn't relevant in this challenge. Mars and Jupiter were a multi battle alongside Barry. In Emerald against T&L, the two pokemon had the same moveset.

With Lickitung, the only strat i saw was neutering Houndoom with Captivate, getting my Defense Curls up and then trying to kill them with Rollout. Unfortunately, this strat was very crit-prone; i spent many turns setting up, and even a single crit during those turns would cause defeat. Even after i was set up, crits were still bad as i was slow. Things never went to plan, Lickitung is out. Lickilicky came out to avenge his fallen son, using the same strategy to win first try without getting crit a single time. After this, it was time for our sole surviving Eeveelution, as well as our sole surviving starter. Umbreon had a lot of weight on its shoulders, but unfortunately it has little in the ways of setup. It could Rest-stall Houndoom out of Flamethrowers, but it really didn't have anywhere to go from there. Weavile two-shot with X-Scissor and there was little i could do about it. I tried stalling Houndoom out of all its offense with Rest, and then Swaggering him so i could Psych Up those swaggers, but he just ran out of Will-o-Wisp PP too and Struggled me down. I didn't see other options; Umbreon is out, and with him die the hopes and dreams of starters and eeveelutions alike.

Togetic tried the same strategy that got him this far: Ancientpower and hope for omniboosts. Unfortunately, i found out that even with 2 omniboosts, Weavile would still outspeed and kill me. The one time i reached him with 3 boosts, he crit me twice and i died anyway. Togetic is out, but honestly i'm proud that he even made it this far. Togekiss doesn't get Ancientpower, so i tried without omniboosts, but i found no way to not die to Weavile or the Gyarados that followed. So in attempt 10 i tried a hail-mary and spammed Silver Wind against Houndoom. This got me one Serene Grace omniboost, which was all i needed. I survived Ice Punch on a sliver, killed Weavile, then i could safely Roost up cause i outsped everything. Air Slash spam did the rest. However, Magneton was next and it was immediately obvious that this was hopeless. I needed an Occa Berry to survive turn 1, and ten i needed either paralysis or a crit to take out Houndoom. Even if this happened, Gyarados would kill me. Magneton is out. Magnezone however did not get one-shot by Flamethrower, so i saw a possible road to victory. If Houndoom missed a Will-o-Wisp and then tried for another, or of he got paralyzed after using will-o-wisp so i could outspeed, i could two-shot with Thunderbolt and arrive at Gyarados with near-full health, perhaps allowing me to tank an Earthquake with my Shuca. Course, this never happened. Magnezone is out.

Last for today is the Porygon clan, but things didn't go well for the man himself. Conversion is nice and all, but there was no type that would shield me from both Flamethrower and Dark Pulse, both of which did about half. Download raised my Attack, which was not helpful. I could use Agility to outspeed, but there was really nowhere to go from there. Porygon is out. Rest in peace, my man. You did way better than anyone thought you would. Porygon2 however is a much better pokemon, but it still took until attempt 10 before things went my way. I'd set up Agility as Houndoom missed a Will-o-Wisp, then i'd hit a Hidden Power as he Flamethrowered me, after which i spammed Recover until he decided to burn me. Eventually my foe Will-o-Wisped my Lum Berry as i Recovered to full health, and i finished him off. Honchkrow went down to two Thunderbolts, then against Gyarados i spammed Recover until it was safe to set up a second Agility, to ensure i outsped everything. Some more Recover spam, then i Thunderbolted him down. This was the story for the remaining mons as well; spam Recover until i see an opening, then Thunderbolt or Hidden Power for damage. Z didn't run Recover; rather, he set up one Agility and one Nasty Plot, then he OHKOd everything with Thunderbolt and Hidden Power.

We start today with Scyther; an Occa Berry would allow me to get Swords Dance up, but while this allowed me to OHKO Houndoom and Honchkrow, Crobat would outspeed and finish me off. I tried neutering Houndoom with Captivate so i could Roost up and reach Crobat with more health, but this always led to me getting burned and needing a ton more swords dances, allowing Houndoom to presure me into using up all my Roost PP without actually being in a good position to beat Crobat. In the end, i concluded that only an Air Slash miss could save me. That miss never came, Scyther is out. Scizor was a range to OHKO even with an Occa Berry, so i instead went for a Focus Sash. I had one turn to live, in which i had to set up Agility and then OHKO my foes. Unfortunately, i had no way of OHKOing Honchkrow, so he could kill me. Eventually i decided to try Silver Wind instrad of Agility, hoping that the omniboost would grant me the killing power i needed. Course, the omniboost never came. Scizor is out. I'm sorry @RichestAirPirate , i let your guy down again.

Electivire equipped an Expert Belt, which allowed him to OHKO everything with Earthquake, Thunderbolt and Brick Break. I tried the same thing with Magmortar, but due to his lower speed he took a hit from Houndoom, which was just enough to allow Weavile and Crobat to kill. However, eventually i thought of a strat. If i Captivated Houndoom's Special Attack into oblivion and then Rest-stalled him out of Thunder Fangs, i could beat him with much less damage than if i just killed him turn 1. I figured this out in attempt 6, then i proceeded to get flinched to death for all my remaining attempts. Due to Lady Luck's personal vendetta against him, Magmortar is out.

On to the legendaries. Giratina got so pissed at this intrusion into his domain that he reverted to his origin forme (which he apparently does in this fight). Expert Belt wasn't working out as i was too slow, but once i equipped a Colbur Berry, Houndoom missed a Will-o-Wisp allowing me to kill him without taking damage. Weavile still did massive damage, but was OHKOd by Hidden Power. I could not OHKO Honchkrow without Expert Belt, but i still had my Colbur Berry to survive his move, and i could safely Rest up vs Crobat in order to kill him and Gyarados with Thunderbolt. As for Heatran, Gyarados was a massive problem. I needed a Shuca to survive Earthquake, but i couldn't even two-shot in return. What did work however was going for Ancientpower versus Houndoom; once i got the boost, i could outspeed and 2-shot Gyarados. This happened in attempt 4, and i even got a crit so i beat him with near-full health. Not that my health mattered much after this point; there was nothing Cyrus's other guys could do to me. We're now on to the Regi clan; Regice and Registeel have pretty great bulk, so with the help of an Occa Berry and the occasional Rest, they could set up all their Amnesias, followed by their Curses. This allowed them to sweep with Return. Last for today was Regigigas who had difficulties with survivability, especially since he has little damage output the first 5 turns. If Houndoom burned me, it was over. The strat was to set up Rock Polish at the start, then hit a Brick Break that would hopefully bring Houndoom into healing range, though in attempt 10 it crit and killed. Two Thunderbolts then took out Honchkrow, and while Gyarados survived a Thunderbolt, that's when Slow Start ended and i could kill with Thunderpunch. Weavile then died to Brick Break and Crobat to Thunderpunch, getting me the win with just 10 HP remaining.

Scizor had a glimpse into the future, saw Flint, and said "NOPE. NOT HAVING A BLAINE EXPERIENCE AGAIN. TAKE ME HOUNDOOM-"

Sucks to hear that Lucario, Gallade, and Scizor went out by Cyrus's hand. Lopunny, you're my only hope...

Also I'm just now catching up on the series HOLY COW EVERYONE IS DEAD CYRUS IS MURKIN' EVERYBODY-

We start today with the mythicals, but even they had a rough time here. Darkrai was outsped by Weavile and Crobat, and after tanking X-Scissor from Weavile he could no longer tank a hit from Crobat. I solved this by equipping a Tanga Berry to tank the X-Scissor better, so that i had enough health to Rest up vs Crobat and Thunderbolt him down when i woke up. Didn't work the first time due to missing a Focus Blast on Houndoom, but the second time i tried this, it worked out as planned. However, next up was Shaymin. Weavile outsped and had Ice Punch so sky form wasn't an option, but even in land form, all but one of the enemy mons is super effective on me. An Occa Berry allowed me to set up Swords Dance and kill Houndoom, but there was nowhere to go from there. Even if my foe missed a Will-o-Wisp, the others would easily gang up and kill me. I tried Yache Berry and hoping for Will-o-Wisp misses, and i tried sky form and setting up with Serene Grace Ominous Wind to outspeed Weavile, but nothing worked. Shaymin is out. Just like that, only Darkrai and Manahy remain to represent mythicals in this challenge. There definitely wasn't another one who equipped a Splash Plate and killed Cyrus's mons with Surf, Thunderbolt and Hidden Power.

Now it's time to send our Emerald champs into the meat grinder. Zangoose could use Captivate to neuter Houndoom and set up Swords Dance, but both Weavile and Crobat outsped too and would kill me together. I eventually figured out that the solution was to run Quick Attack, but after i found that strat, Houndoom never cooperated. You see, i coul only get one Captivate off before i had to spam Rest until he was out of Flamethrowers. This strat was thus very crit-prone, and he crit me constantly. Zangoose is out; first time since Fantina that we've lost one of our Emerald champs. Pinsir was in an even worse position; he needed an Occa Berry to survive turn 1, then he needed to not get burned or crit (which happened on almost every attempt) in order to kill Houndoom with Rock Slide, though even that was a range. From there though, i had nowhere to go. I could not OHKO Honchkrow, and he could kill me. I tried running a Quick Claw to kill Houndoom with full health, but this never paid off. Pinsir is out.

Latios was next, but between Houndoom's Dark Pulse and Weavile's three supereffective moves, her chances weren't great. I could neuter Houndoom with Captivate, but Weavile would outspeed and hit me for massive damage, after which Crobat could kill me. I had to carry a Yache Berry and Rest-stall Houndoom out of all his Dark Pulses to even have a chance at survival, and this was very crit-prone. I'd set up Reflect once Houndoom was sufficiently neutered and i was in good health, hoping that this would stop Weavile and the mons that followed from killing me. Never worked though; too many crits. Latias is out. On to Kyogre and Rain-boosted Specs Surf didn't cut it; not OHKOing Gyarados meant that together with Cyrus's speed demons, he could wear me down. So instead i equipped Leftovers and ran Surf and Thunder to kill them all. Groudon's sun meand Houndoom needed to be removed quickly, but one Brick Break did the trick, and Gyarados was next, so i set up all my Bulk Ups as the sun neutered my foe's offense. From there, Brick Break and Rock Slide did the rest. Last of that trio is Rayquaza, who set up one Dragon Dance and then killed everything with Brick Break and Rock Slide.

Jirachi time; unfortunately this wasn't easy. I needed Light Screen to weaken Flamethrower and Heat Wave, and Houndoom was a two-shot with Drain Punch after that. I thus had to not get burned for 2 consecutive turns. Couldn't run Lum as i needed Expert Belt to OHKO Gyarados with Thunderbolt. Unfortunately Houndoom really likes his Will-o-Wisps, and the one time he didn't use any, Honchkrow crit me and allowed Weavile to finish me. Jirachi is out. Last was Mewtwo who outsped and killed everything with Expert Belt Hidden Power and Thunderbolt.

And there we have it. Of the 50 pokemon that got to the distortion world, 25 managed to defeat Cyrus, while te other 25 went down in defeat. Our total amount of pokemon was halved here, and even some legendaries were unable to defeat Cyrus. He truly lives up to his reputation. Let's hope the next fight won't be as disastrous; up next, the surviving half will go up against Volkner.

Cyrus just Thanos Snapped and just like that, the roster got cut in half.

I wager Volkner will be much easier in comparison, but the rest?
Oh boy, the rest will be tricky.
Snorlax and Mewtwo are the ones I have high hopes for and Lopunny, I'm surprised managed to get this far.
Still, with 6 major fights left, this final stretch will be rough.

aye. I can see Milotic or Manaphy running into trouble vs Volkner, but pretty much everyone else should have an easy time. I'm also hardcore rooting for Lopunny rn; would be awesome if she made it all the way.
