TPCi acquisition of Excell Brands
The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) has announced today that they will be acquiring Excell Brands, one of the largest distributors of trading card game products in the US. Excell Brands has been working with TPCi for several decades, and functions as a distributor for all the major trading card game brands, including Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and One Piece.

Excell Brands is TPCi’s largest distribution partner in the US. The Iowa-based company serves as distributor and category management for many major retailers in the US, including Walmart, Amazon, and their exclusive distribution relationship with Target. These relationships are expected to remain unchanged.

TPCi announced their intention for Excell Brands to continue working independently. “[This partnership] allows us to keep doing what we do best for our retail and brand partners, while continuing to invest in our team, systems, and service,” said CEO & President of Excell Brands Terry Rosendahl.

Kenji Okubo, President of The Pokémon Company International, said:
This reflects our long-term commitment to supporting the Pokémon community and the broader trading card ecosystem. Excell Brands has built a strong reputation as a trusted distributor and category management partner for their customers with deep insight into the needs of Pokémon fans.

This acquisition is among recent moves TPCi has made to make Pokémon TCG cards more accessible. In December of 2025, TPCi’s wholly owned subsidiary, Millennium Print Group, leased a 1.27 million sq. ft facility to expand their printing operations. TPCi has acknowledged the scarcity of cards (though not the ongoing issues caused by scalpers), stating that they will be “maximizing production” for future Pokémon TCG products.

The purchase is expected to go through without issue; meanwhile, both companies mark their 30th anniversaries this year. It remains to be seen if these major business acquisitions in the TCG market will improve customer access to Pokémon TCG cards.
