Pokémon UNITE introduces new Teamplay features; new game mode “Super Magikarp Splash”; Draft Pick matches temporarily suspended

Pokémon UNITE's January 15th update has introduced various new features, including helpful features that encourage teamwork and communication, and more game modes, with the new "Super Magikarp Splash" mode and the returning "Electrode Volleyball" mode. Additionally, the Draft Pick mode will be suspended temporarily due to instability and crashing issues.

Update Details​

• Prize Machine updated! Neo Street Style: Ceruledge, Space Style: Gengar, and Theater Style: Sylveon available again, each with move effect enhancement packs!
• Display text in draft pick has been updated to indicate whether your team has first pick or second pick.
• Features that encourage teamwork and communication have been implemented.
  • 1. You can now use quick chat in lobbies! New quick chat messages that compliment your teammates have been added.
  • 2. You can now select Rematch with This Team on the results screen. Teammates who also select this button will be automatically placed onto the same team and will proceed to the next battle together.

Addressing Game Stability​

We have confirmed an issue where the app crashes, primarily before the start of battles in Draft Mode. Upon investigation, we have determined that this issue is caused by complex factors affecting a wide range of the program.
In this update, we have implemented fixes aimed at improving stability. While we anticipate that these measures will improve the situation, we are continuing our investigation and correction efforts towards a fundamental solution.
We deeply apologize to all Trainers for the significant inconvenience and trouble this has caused.

Additions Regarding Teamplay and Communication​

New Feature: Re-Unite is here!​

Introducing "Re-Unite," a new feature that lets you play again with the same team!

Teammates who press the “Rematch with This Team" button on the results screen will be automatically grouped together to proceed to the next battle.

Additionally, you can check the status of each teammate above the "Rematch with This Team" button:

• Green Circle: Indicates the teammate is reviewing the results.
• Green Check: Indicates the teammate has pressed the "Retry with this team" button.
• Red X: Indicates the teammate is offline or has moved to another screen.

Praise Teammates with Quick Chat!​

Quick Chat is now available in the lobby screen! We have also added new phrases to praise your team:

• Thanks, everyone! We won!
• Well played! Taking notes!
• Thanks for the support! You’re the true MVP!

Voice Chat Invitations​

In Ranked Matches at Master Rank or higher, you can now invite matched teammates to join Voice Chat using the microphone button on the Pokémon selection screen.

Super Magikarp Splash Begins!​

From January 15th to January 28th, "Super Magikarp Splash" will be added to Casual Battles, where only Gyarados and Mega Gyarados licenses can be selected. Play during the event period to get Gold Emblems!

Electrode Volleyball Returns!​

Electrode Volleyball is back! It has now been added to Quick Battles so everyone can enjoy this mode anytime.

Draft Mode Update​

In Draft Mode, visibility has been improved so you can now check the pick order (First Pick / Second Pick).

Bug Fixes​

We have fixed the following issues:

• Fixed an issue where the first stage of Pawmot's Thunder Dive could be used even if Pawmot was immobilized.
• Fixed an issue where the lightbulb icon was not displayed when the effect of the Held Item "Exp. Share" was active.
• Fixed an issue with Gyarados where attempting to aim Dragon Breath in a specific direction during Waterfall would result in the move activating in the direction of movement instead.
• Fixed an issue where bonus points were incorrectly awarded when a Legend Rank player engaged in a Ranked Match with a Master Rank player.

Thank you for playing Pokémon UNITE.
Currently, the game application is experiencing instability, specifically resulting in frequent crashes (forced termination) before battles begin in Draft Pick.
We sincerely apologize for the significant inconvenience and frustration this has caused many of our Trainers.
We would like to report on the cause of this issue and our future course of action.

■ Issue and Cause​

Our investigation has revealed that the direct cause of this phenomenon is data processing exceeding the device's memory capacity during gameplay.
Specifically, this is caused by a combination of the following factors:

• Data that should be released is accumulating in the memory across various parts of the game.
• The Draft Pick screen processes a large amount of data, leading to high memory usage.

The combination of these factors exceeds the device's load capacity, leading to crashes.

■ Current Status and Actions Taken​

We have implemented fixes in several past updates; however, we have not yet achieved a complete resolution of the crashes.
We are continuing to identify and fix areas where unnecessary data accumulates and are working on optimizations to reduce the memory used in Draft Pick.

■ Future Action Plan​

We plan to release an update in late January to further improve stability.
However, to prevent disadvantages caused by game crashes, and to ensure that everyone can participate in Ranked Matches with peace of mind as soon as possible, we have decided to take the following action:

• We will change the settings so that Draft Pick will not occur in Ranked Matches until the update aimed at improving stability is released.

Please note that the duration may be extended depending on the progress of the fix. In such a case, we will update users on the situation.
We deeply apologize to those who were looking forward to the strategic gameplay unique to Draft Pick for failing to meet your expectations and for the inconvenience caused.
