Having only just launched worldwide earlier this week, Pokémon TCG Pocket is already running its first in-game event. Wonder Pick Event Part 1 brings Chansey and Meowth promo cards to the game's Wonder Pick feature, along with a selection of limited time event items to the in-game shop, including a pair of backgrounds, and a binder cover. This event will run through to November 14th, at 9:59pm (PST).

With this event, every time a player's Wonder Pick is updated, there will be a chance of a Bonus Pick or Chansey Pick being made available. Bonus Picks are free, however Chansey Picks will require 2 Wonder Stamina. Each Bonus Pick will feature one card (either a Chansey or Meowth card), along with two event tickets, and two wonder hourglasses, with players receiving one of these at random as with a normal Wonder Pick. Please note however that the cards in these Bonus Picks are not guaranteed to be promo cards of either of these Chansey or Meowth, and players may instead be offered the option of the Chansey or Meowth cards from the base Genetic Apex set. Occasionally, a special Chansey Pick will be available in which players are guaranteed a promo card. Both the Bonus Pick and Chansey Pick expire after half an hour, so players will need to check their Wonder Pick lists frequently to ensure they obtain the cards.

A set of special Missions are also available for this event, awarding players with Event Shop Ticket (Meowth) that can be used in the in-game shop to buy the event exclusive Meowth and Pink Desk Frame backdrops, and the Meowth binder cover. These missions and their rewards are as follows:
  • Collect 1 Chansey card - Event Shop Ticket (Meowth) ×1
  • Collect 2 Chansey cards - Event Shop Ticket (Meowth) ×1
  • Collect 1 Meowth card - Event Shop Ticket (Meowth) ×1
  • Collect 2 Meowth cards - Event Shop Ticket (Meowth) ×1
  • Wonder pick 3 times - Event Shop Ticket (Meowth) ×1
  • Wonder pick 5 times - Event Shop Ticket (Meowth) ×1
  • Wonder pick 7 times - Event Shop Ticket (Meowth) ×3
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket features app-exclusive card sets from which players can collect digital Pokémon cards, which may feature either new artwork or illustrations previously used in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Even where artwork has been reused, the cards themselves are entirely original, with different attacks and/or types to the original physical cards. The app also introduces immersive cards which allow players to experience the world inside the card's illustration. Cards in the app are based largely on the card template from the physical Sun & Moon Series, though with some slight differences blending in aspects from the more recent Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet series. Two booster packs can be opened for free each day, with more available via in-game purchases.

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will also allow players to use the cards they've collected in a new quick battle system which features a streamlined version of the Pokémon TCG rules. To achieve simpler rules, this game abandons certain Pokémon TCG concepts and introduces new ones:
  • Decks are made of 20 cards and no more than two cards with the same name can be included in a deck.
  • At the start of the game, each player draws five cards. The player that goes first can't draw or attach an Energy, but can use Supporter cards.
  • Each player may have up to ten cards in their hand, as opposed to having an unlimited hand size.
  • Energy cards are replaced by an "Energy Zone" which generates one Energy each turn to attach to a Pokémon.
  • Prize cards are replaced by points; the winner is the first player to get three points.
    • A player unable to draw a card at the start of their turn no longer loses the game.
  • Pokémon cards have no Resistance, and have a Weakness modifier of +20 instead of the usual ×2.

The app supports Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese languages. It was developed by The Pokémon Company in partnership with Creatures Inc., who are responsible for design and planning of the Pokémon Trading Card Game; and DeNA Co. Ltd., developers of Pokémon Masters EX.
