Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo to reopen in August with new safety measures, following its closure after the fatal stabbing of an employee

Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo, the largest Pokémon Center store in Japan, and its adjoining Pokémon Sweets café will be reopening in August after its closure in March of this year. The stores have been closed following the tragic murder of a Pokémon Center employee at the hands of her stalker. The Pokémon Company states the store will reopen with stricter safety measures, including entry restrictions.

Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo and its Pikachu Sweets café have been closed since March 26th, when an ex-boyfriend-turned-stalker entered the store and stabbed 21-year-old Pokémon Center employee Moe Harukawa and himself to death. This is the first news from The Pokémon Company regarding the location since its closure.

The store and café will reopen on August 24th, with The Pokémon Company noting that they are taking extra precautions. “Prior to reopening, we are carrying out partial renovations at Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO, enhancing safety measures for our staff, and working to ensure a safe environment for our customers,” the company states.

The company also asserts that temporary entry restrictions will be in place following the reopening, but has not offered specific details; the method for entry restrictions will be announced at a later date. It should also be noted that for the month of August, Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo will not be hosting any of the events being held at other Pokémon Center locations in Japan.
