For this year's Comic-Con International, Pokémon's booth (#235) has been turned into an interactive experience called the Pokémon Mega Evolution Experience. Themed perfectly to match the grand return of Mega Evolution to the brand in both the video game Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the Mega Evolution (TCG) expansion of the Trading Card Game, the experience will involve completing activities that replicate how Mega Evolution will be performed in the new game, and taking part in a special Mega Raid battle with Mega Venusaur. To partake, visitors will need to obtain a Mission Pass from the booth, which are only available while supplies last. Visitors will also additionally receive free Mega Evolution-themed Pokémon merchandise (while supplies last) and a photo opportunity at the end of their booth experience.
Taito Okiura, the vice president of marketing and media at The Pokémon Company International, says on the topic:
“The Pokémon brand is looking forward to returning to San Diego and Comic-Con International with a special immersive experience as it celebrates a ‘Mega’ year with the upcoming launch of the Pokémon Legends: Z-A video game and Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution expansion. Just like Mega-Evolved Pokémon, this celebration is too big to contain! We can’t wait to bring this experience to Trainers as we continue our mission of bringing the joy of Pokémon to fans in innovative and engaging ways.”
Aside from the Mega Evolution Experience at the Pokémon booth, there will also be a few other Pokémon-themed activities and events happening at this year's Comic-Con International, and event exclusive Pokémon merchandise will be available from several different exhibitors. Jazwares (booth #3513) will be carrying a range of exclusive products, including the Squirtle Squad 5-Piece Plush Set by Jazwares, featuring the iconic Squirtle Squad as 8-inch plushies presented in a display case, as well as offering a special photo opportunity with a statue of Gengar. Funko (#5341) meanwhile will have a Funko Pop! Jumbo Entei figure available for purchase. Other officially licensed Pokémon products will also be on display at the booths of Kotobukiya (#3535), Loungefly (#5145), Hallmark For All Fankind (#3348) and Insight Editions booth (#2129). All exclusive items will only be available while supplies last, so fans will need to get in quick if they want to ensure they're able to pick them up.
