Mewtwo arrives in Pokémon Sleep in a special event coming this September — Get more chances to befriend Mew with another upcoming event

Sleep Researchers will soon be getting another opportunity to observe the sleep styles of a Legendary Pokémon, with a new event featuring Mewtwo announced for Pokémon Sleep. This event is set to begin sometime in September. A separate new event will also be run giving players an additional chance to befriend Mew.

The announcement also notes that Psychic-type Pokémon will be particularly effective during this event, suggesting there may be some event bonuses similar to those from the Latios and the Soul Dew event in May.

Unlike the previous Legendary Pokémon events before it, this Mewtwo event may not be entirely beginner friendly, with Mew being specifically noted as assisting in researching Mewtwo's sleep style. Perhaps in an effort to ensure accessibility however, in addition to having a chance to encounter Mew in the monthly New Moon Day, a separate event will also be run prior to this Mewtwo event in which players will have an opportunity to encounter Mew. No further details on this event have been given at this time, however the announcement does note that the game's developers are considering a feature to prevent friendship points already accumulated for Mew being wasted on befriending them, suggesting that the new event will allow players to befriend Mew automatically.

Mewtwo themselves will have a new Main Skill called Psystrike (Berry Zone). When this skill procs, Snorlax will gain strength, and a Berry Zone effect is created at the current Sleep Research site. While this particular Berry Zone is active, the energy gained from Mago Berries (collected by Psychic Pokémon) is increased. This effect will remain so long as Sleep Researchers remain at that site, even if Mewtwo is removed from the party. The effect can also stack some unspecified number of times, increasing its effectiveness each time.

Like other Legendary Pokémon before them, Mewtwo will count as a Special Pokémon. While Researchers may befriend any number of these Pokémon, the Nature and sub skills of the first Special Pokémon befriended of each species will be identical for all Sleep Researchers. Normally no more than one Special Pokémon can be on a Researcher's team at any given time, however, Latias and Latios are a special exception to this and are allowed to be fielded together.
