hihi!! i'm karma/estarossa (karmarossa also works) and i go by he/she/they pronouns (use whichever!! i dont have a preference :3<)
i've been thinking about making an account here for a couple weeks because i use bulbapedia a lot, but i dont interact with my fandoms often so i kept postponing it. that is, until my friend (sup khei ☆ ～('▽^人)) gently nudged me over to finally doing it. i cant say i will interact much but i'll try my best (｡•́‿•̀｡)

i've known and liked pokemon since i was a tiny kid, but i didnt have any console so the anime and movies were pretty much my only contact with the franchise (i mostly remember watching the d/p anime and the lucario movie <3), i only started playing the games during 2020-2021 when i absolutely steamrolled almost every mainline game and several spinoffs. i love the mystery dungeon games too.
that being said, i've also watched all the anime seasons (except horizons) and a lot of the movies. i love the worldbuilding in pokemon and i really like animals too so the franchise just really speaks to me i guess? completing the pokedex is my main goal when playing (god i love completionism), i dont care much about shiny hunting and im more casual in that sense

i draw and write, because i love double suffering </3 (i dont post much online but i may link my other socials in my profile) i also love making ocs and a couple years ago i started making pokemon ocs and since then they've consumed my brain like an amoeba help

i've never been in forums so it'll take me some time probably to get used to the layout, anyway nice to meet everyone and yeah have a nice day o7

Welcome to the forums. I was wondering what games you've completed the Pokédex in? Do you get help from your friends? I'm slowly filling up my Platinum Pokédex right now and I wanna make an attempt at Gen 3 too in the future (playing Gen 4 first because the gameplay is slower lol). Also, how do you feel getting into games so recently (relatively)? I think many members have been veterans for many years so it's fun to get some fresh perspectives of the games too.

hihi!! well the first game i played (in 2020/2021) was pokemon moon, and in that one i got to 80% completion of the national dex. being my first played game i was trying to get the hang of stuff and i loved finding and capturing the different pokemon!! from then on i went to playing soulsilver, and i kept going forward playing one per pair of mainline games (except d/p/pt, i also played or/as instead of r/s/e).

honestly? the only pokedex i 100% finished was the hisui one in legends arceus, because every other one i always lacked the version-specific pokemon, trade evolutions and legendaries/mythicals/special ones, and some of the pokemon that had like a 1% encounter rate.
i dont get help from my friends, i played all games on emulators except for the switch ones (my pc cant handle a switch emulator </3 plus one of my friends was very kind to lend me an actual switch to play) so anything that involved getting version-locked pokes and trade evos was a no-no from the beginning. i dont know if i can even give advice on completing the dex, my strategy is "keep looking, eventually you'll find it, expect to lose your sanity a little". still, i love to try my best to get all pokemon that i can manage to <:)
currently as im playing legends za im only missing the trade evos, i realised they have a chance of spawning as alphas in wild zone 20 so every now and then i drop by and check if they spawned + i try to catch them (i think out of those i only have machamp for now), i dont have the paid connection switch thingy and i dont think it's worth it, so grind it is

since i got into the games in the 3ds/switch era (im counting the 3ds too because i had been thinking about pokemon since s/m came out) i dont really have much nostalgia for gens previous than VI. playing soulsilver (the "oldest" poke game i played) felt like a downgrade from moon i think, mainly because of all the qol features that had been added throughout the years, so my playthrough in ss wasnt good. my team when i considered the game "over" (almost all pokedex filled, main story finished, got all "rematches" with gym leaders, both legendaries captured, only had red left to defeat) consisted of my lv 85 feraligatr, lv 65 lugia, lv 60 zapdos, and 3 filler pokemon that i never used since i would always put my feraligatr into battle (coco my goat). i didnt think the lack of exp share would hinder my playthrough so much, i legit beat johto and kanto only with the water starter (lugia and zapdos were there for emergencies) and in the end my team was so underleveled in general that it would take so much time to level everyone up to beat red. i just jumped to the next game to play. bw and bw2 were fun, these times i did try to avoid being underleveled and the games felt smoother in general. other than qol that make the gameplay more fun (for me at least), i dont have opinions other than "i love pokymons they're cool and funny" so i really dont know how to explain my perspective, i do like how newer games seem to put more personality into the characters and world rather than focusing on the "game" aspect. again, i grew up with the anime, so having characters in the games that help show what's outside of the whole "be a trainer get pokemon" objective is so cool and makes everything feel much more alive!! i hope im making sense? (¯ ¯٥)

i'd say my favorites are the alola games (counting both sm and usum) and legends arceus:
  • i remember in 2016 seeing the commercials for sun and moon and i fell in love with the concept of regional variants, something so simple irl like related species being introduced in games about capturing fauna made the animal-obsessed freak inside me so happy, also alola is a beautiful region and the concept of ultra beasts interested me a lot at the time. the whole plot with lillie and gladion also felt very interesting i'd say, i dont know why there's so many abused chldren in pokemon but they make for compelling stories.
  • i loved legends arceus because i think seeing into the past of an already-known region lets us know more about the world of pokemon, treating pokemon as dangerous gives a more realistic idea of the actual relationship between humans and pokemon and how it had evolved with time :D i also absolutely love how... empty? lonely? it feels. like i love the atmosphere of feeling helpless in a time that isn't your own, trying to chart an unknown region while being surrounded by a harsh climate + some dangerous monsters that are hard to avoid. also getting to know about the mythology of the region through ancient clans just grgrgrgrgr these are the type of things that i love, when the characters are able to represent the world they live in and you learn about it through them.

i havent played scavio yet (planning to play it with a friend because they want to see my reaction) but just based on vibes i think i'd love it too (i love paldea i wish españa and portugal were real </3)

i'd also really love to show my art and writing sometime!! i'll make an art thread (hopefully soon??) to post my stuff and i am planning to submit some stuff for the 30th anniversary art bingo!! (♡˙︶˙♡)
 
Helloooo and welcome!! you seem really cool, i like worldbuilding in pokemon too :) i am a big fan of worldbuilding and writing so i love to give the pokemon world some personal touches and a slightly more realistic vibe in fanfics and roleplays and such...

to whoever it may concern and regarding me trying to complete the legends za pokedex: yesterday i caught an alpha gengar!! slowly but surely getting to 100% completion!! ( ´ ▽ ` ) it's totally possible
 
good news: i caught an alpha alakazam!!

bad news: today i found out the only trade evolutions that can be caught in wild zone 20 are machamp, gengar and alakazam (gourgeist too but i already caught the fixed one in wild zone 15)

the only pokemon i have left to complete the pokedex are aromatisse, slurpuff, slowking, scisor and steelix (i missed the one from the main missions), which are trade evolutions that cant be found in the base game as wild </3
i DO have a galarian slowpoke and a galarica wreath so tomorrow i'll see if getting galarian slowking counts towards pokedex completion

anyway woe is me but hey 95% completion? 97%???? that's pretty good
