eBay to host Pokémon Day event, featuring 30 years of Pokémon cards and merchandise up for live auction

Online resale platform eBay has announced their celebration of the Pokémon franchise’s upcoming 30th anniversary: a live online auction of Pokémon merchandise representing its 30 year history, called the "30/30 Collection.” eBay advertises that all the items up for auction, which will include cards, games, apparel, and other merchandise, will start bidding at their original retail prices.

The auction will be hosted only via eBay Live, a real-time auction taking place over livestream, and begin on February 27th at 6 PM ET / 3PM PT. eBay is also sharing some statistics that help describe the extreme popularity of Pokémon items in the secondhand market. According to the website, users searched for Pokémon on eBay over 360 times per minute in 2025. Searches for Pokémon bags have increased 270% from 2024 to 2025, and the number of Pikachu items sold on the platform increased more than 120% as Pokémon Day approaches.

eBay has not provided a full list of items in the 30/30 Collection, nor their starting prices, but they are offering a few highlights:

• 1996 Pokémon Base Set Japanese #6 Charizard Holo PSA 10: Charizard continues to dominate the category, representing five of the top 10 highest-value trading card singles sold on eBay in 2025. This card is the first appearance of Charizard in the trading card game.
• 1998 Pokémon Red and Blue Versions Game Boy Sealed CIB Graded PSA 9.2: Searches on eBay.com for this game increased more than 130% compared to the year prior, underscoring the strength of retro gaming trends.
• 2003 Pokémon Dragon #97 Rayquaza EX Holo PSA 10: A fan-favorite Legendary from the early EX era, this is the first English appearance of Rayquaza. Combined searches for Rayquaza Dragon and Rayquaza Holo cards rose by 170% in 2025 compared to 2024.
• 2021 Seiko SBPY162 Pokémon Special Model Blastoise Limited to 700 Pieces: This limited-edition Seiko taps into nostalgia for Blastoise – with searches for the Pokémon surging by 50% compared to 2024, the icon’s appeal extended beyond trading cards in 2025.
• 2023 Pokémon x Van Gogh SVP Black Star Promo #085 Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat PSA 10: This fine art-inspired grail continues to see enduring demand on the marketplace, with eBay users searching for the card 70 times per hour in 2025.

Other items pictured in promos for the auction include a PSA-graded copy of Pokémon Colosseum, a limited-edition Mew skateboard from Santa Cruz, a Pikachu backpack by Balmain, and an in-box Charizard edition Nintendo 3DS, among many other highly sought after TCG cards.

In addition to the livestreamed auction, eBay will be hosting an in-person event in New York City, as part of their eBay Live on Tour series. The event will take place at The Standard Biergarten in NYC, running from 11 AM to 8 PM ET and concluding with the livestreamed auction. The event will feature live programming such as TCGplayer demos, PSA grading, and interactive experiences for visitors. Guests at the event are eligible to win prizes by participating in events such as a “Badge Hunt,” and prizes include a Phantasmal Flames or Mega Dream EX TCG pack, an eBay playmat, and an eBay bag. No tickets are required, though prizes are limited.
