After completing my second playthrough of Digimon Story Time Stranger I felt the need to start fresh again. So a new playthrough was born. And I'll be documenting it this time in this blog for fun so you can watch and hear my progress in probably my favorite PS5 game.
Anyway, started a new file with the male PC. Named him Red because he has red hair and for funzees. So we got the opening movie. Literally. God, that Agent Alpha opening completely blows a lot of games out of the water these days coughScarletVioletcough. Then we meet Red who is given instructions from the "Operator" to go check out the Wall of Hope. Sounds straightforward enough. After working my way through the crowd a convenient earthquake and woman falling down distracted a special unit guy and dropped the barrier blocking my path into the underground. And here we meet our first three phase electron lifeforms... or rather Digimon (I swear, this game not only has a higher reading level but is much more respectful to the player's intelligence). Anyway, we get to pick our first "starter": Patamon, DemiDevimon, and Gomamon. Naturally, I picked Patamon since you can get the pre-evos for DemiDevimon in the first "dungeon" and Gomamon in the second "dungeon". Plus I love that flying potato. He's so cute!
Anyway, after engaging in my first Digi-battle I downloaded the item packs I had from the DLC, allowing me to add Agumon (Black) and Gabumon (Black) to my ranks, giving me 3 Mons already. To this day I wonder why Agumon (Black) and Gabumon (Black) tend to be DLC, sometimes even locked behind pre-order codes? Like some of the DLC Digimon like the Banchos and X-Antibody I get, but why are these two always locked behind a paywall or some sort of code? Why not just let them exist in the game like all the other ones? Anyway, that enough of a tangent. Moving on, I equipped the USBs I got from said item packs to my Mons so I can start reaping their benefits right away. Oh, also, I nicknamed my Digimon: Glide the Patamon, Blackfire the Agumon, and Blackfang the Gabumon. After battling and DigiAttacking Digimon I ran for my bloody life from a Virus MetalGreymon, meeting the Girl to be Protected. After some awkwardness it was time to move forward. After picking up the Icicle Edge 1 Equip Skill I made my way out.
...Only for Virus MetalGreymon to follow. Things look bad. But Omnimon comes to the rescue! Funnily enough, his first Transcendent Sword scored a Crit, thus the battle was over pretty quickly. Plus Blackfang's Little Horn is an Ice element attack, which the big lug is weak to, so the battle ended quicker than its "supposed" to be. Anyway, after getting out of that big ol' hole I gained access to Converting, thus I converted Omega-xis the Koromon. He joined the team for now but I do have plans for him. After exploring the outside of the Government Building for goodies I spent a fair bit of time collecting Scan Data and Converting several Digimon. I've noticed that in this stage in the game most Rookies give 50% Scan Data as opposed to the normal 20% later on. There are exceptions, however, such as Gazimon, Keramon, and ToyAgumon, for example, who only give the 20% upon first battling during this stage for some odd reason. And I've noticed that Kotemon still gives 50% Scan Data later in the game. Possible oversight on that one?
Anyway, after collecting items, Scan Data, and Converting at least 24 Digimon I started to shuffle my team around a bit. After a bit I settled for the "current" team of Patamon, Gabumon (Black), Agumon (Black), Monodramon, Dracomon, and Tentomon, giving me 2 of each main type. Also the latter three are named Ryu, Teepo, and Buzzwing. No points for guessing where the first two names come from. Anyway, after spending some time grinding I decided to be brazen and battle Chaosdramon. Sure, I got wiped instantly but that's why I always start a playthrough on Story Mode so I can ease into the game and enjoy it more. So that also means Invincible Mode when you lose a battle. So that's what I did. Poor Chaosdramon, getting bodied by Rookies because of a built-in cheese mode. That must've been embarrassing. Also I gave Icicle Edge 1 to Ryu so he'd have a massively super-effective move on Chaosdramon. Plus I tend to give my first Monodramon Icicle Edge 1 for good early coverage. So after rotating my team around so that I'd have 1 Data, Virus, and Vaccine on the front line (as I had shifted it prior to the Chaosdramon fight to 2 Vaccines and 1 Virus to take advantage of type/element match-ups) I stopped for the night there.
My Team:
Frontline:
Glide the Patamon
Ryu the Monodramon
Blackfang the Gabumon (Black)
Reserves:
Buzzwing the Tentomon
Blackfire the Agumon (Black)
Teepo the Dracomon
Also, most of the Mons in the team are at Levels 7-9, depending on the Mon (I don't remember which one is what Level), especially since they gained a ton of levels from the Chaosdramon fight. I plan to continue tomorrow after I take care of some last-minute cleaning and maintenance for my yearly apartment inspection on Friday. But what awaits our intrepid team at the top of the Government Building? We will find out next time.
