Beginning with the Johto League Champions discs, Viz finally decided to stray from their three episode a disc plan and opted for a more sensible release of seven episodes per disc (except for the final volume, which contains ten episodes). Judging by their release of this season as well as the Orange Island season, it seems that the days of three-episode discs are over.

There is currently no VHS equivalent of these DVD's. While there are "Johto League Champions" VHS tapes floating around, they are merely "best of" collections with only three episodes per tape. Therefore, the only way to get every Johto League Champions episode, in order, is to get the DVD's.

All the episodes are dub-only and are the edited TV version as they aired in the U.K. and Australia.

All DVD's contain closed captionings.
