A lot of people don't like Pokémon.
It's not hard to see why. Between the infamous Porygon episode, the controversy surrounding Jynx, the recalled Pokémon toys at Burger King, religious leaders accusing it of being a form of demonic worship, a widespread hatred of the most famous Pokémon, Pikachu, a universal notion that it is only for young children, and countless other strikes against Pokémon's reputation, the best aspects of the game are often forgotten.
Any fan can tell you that there is something very magical about Pokémon. It is a simple concept, one which anyone can understand and enjoy. Yet the appeal of the game is much greater than anyone would expect for something so simple. I've found most people will either admit they like the game or blatantly deny they ever played it, possibly to avoid admitting that they enjoyed it. With the people who admit they like the game, they always remember the first time they played it. A new, wonderful world had opened up to them the first time they turned on their Game Boy.
That's what Pokémon is, really. It's not a game, not an anime, not a demonic cult. It's a world. And it's one that everyone can find a place in. That's why they can add a new region with a hundred new Pokémon or more with every new release of the game. That's why in nearly every episode of the anime a new character appears. It is an entire world, and we've only been shown a few parts of it.
Since the day I've picked up the game, I've been very eager to explore this world. There must be hundreds of regions, thousands of trainers, millions of Pokémon! Admit it, aren't you curious about everything that we still haven't seen in Pokémon?
That's where Pokémon Creations comes in.
Pokémon Creations is a website devoted to supporting and encouraging fanworks for Pokémon, since in a sense they are building that world. We welcome it all here: new Pokémon, new trainers, new scenarios, new regions, new time periods, and every other piece of the world that you've dreamed up.
No, there may be nothing canon here, but what is the Pokémon world built of, if not dreams?
